Hertford Play Day - the town centre event for kids
With schools out for summer and parents/guardians looking for free activities to entertain the kids, Hertford Play Day has something on offer for all ages.
Hertford Play Day is organised by Hertford Town Council and takes place on Wednesday 7th August from 11am - 4pm in the town centre. There will also be another of Hertford Town Council’s popular trails for children launching on Wednesday 24th July that runs throughout the holidays.
As part of the national Play Day initiative, the Town Council has organised an abundance of activities, most of which are free of charge or low cost to participate in.
Free Activities & Shows Include:
• Mr Marvel Magic shows
• Zumbini classes
• Circus workshops
• Balloon modelling
• Pizza tasting at Six Templars
• Ice cream tasting at IlVino Café
• Craft activities in at Leaf Café & Hertford Library
• Design your own t-shirt competition at Gingerlillies
• Food and drink samples as well as kids’ activities at Café Rouge
• Everyone Active Mini Olympics – fun games with a fitness twist for the little ones (and parents) to win prizes including 12 months free membership, 12 months free swimming lessons, family fun swims and much more.
Low cost activities include; children’s films at Hertford Theatre, craft activities at the Mill House in Marshgate Drive, beauty glitter, hair platting and makeup tutorials at Love Locks and the option to create magical tea lights at Leaf Café.
Many retailers in the town will be offering discounts throughout the event including 20% off Maxin Porcaro children’s haircuts, 25% off meal deals at Costa, 10% off at Paul Martin.

Cllr Jane Sartin, Chairman of Hertford Town Council’s Development and Leisure Committee, said “If you’re looking for summer holiday activities for children close to home, Hertford town centre will be the place to be on 7 August. It’s good to have the involvement of so many local businesses, putting on activities as part of the event alongside the entertainment Hertford Town Council is organising.”
