Date for your diary: Hertford Eco Fest on 11th May
Hertford Town Council is hosting Eco Fest, a free event at the Castle on Sunday 11th May, from 12noon until 4.00pm.
Hertford Eco Fest, part of a wider programme of town-wide sustainability events, is designed to raise awareness of the small changes we can all make to reduce our carbon footprint, while protecting and enhancing our natural environment. The Council is looking forward to uniting Hertford in this vital and positive communal purpose.
Hertford Eco Fest promises to be lots of fun for the whole family. Visitors will be able to enjoy a variety of fun activities, including:
- Garden Games
- Junk Modelling
- Smoothie Bike - pedal to make your own smoothie!
- E-bike display - test ride with Highway Cycles
- Repair Stall - offering repair diagnosis
- Food, drink and craft stalls
- Information and education around money saving ideas and carbon reduction suggestions
- Live talks and workshop space covering the benefits of repairs, sustainable baking, composting and the importance of bees
- Live entertainment from local musicians plus pop-up theatre with 'William Wormsworth and Wormarie’ storytelling sessions.
Plus, head inside the Castle for the following:
- ‘Hertford Eco Quilt’: a community artwork with textile artist Ghislaine Peart
- ‘Climate Café’: a community led network exploring feelings about climate change
- ‘With integrity’: how you can contribute positively to the environment.
A wider programme of other events across the local community, around Eco Fest, are collated on the Hertford Town Council website . This includes showings of ‘Ocean with David Attenborough’ at BEAM; a film which takes viewers on a breath-taking journey, showing there is nowhere more vital nor full of life, than the ocean! The screening on 11th May, the day of the Eco Fest event, will be followed by a talk from Prof. Viv Jones, Emeritus Professor of Environmental Change at UCL, who will be examining the success of recent monitoring and restoration efforts on the River Beane, a local and globally rare chalk stream. A Council spokesperson said: “We are delighted to host this innovative event to bring the community together - working towards improving our environment, on a local and global scale! Last year, this event had to be cancelled due to some challenging weather - but this year we hope Spring will be kind so we can welcome everyone to this wonderful free event at Hertford Castle, with plenty of exciting activities on offer for the whole family to enjoy.
"We are honoured to share the listings of other local environmental community events, in the run up to Eco Fest and are so proud that so many people and organisations in Hertford are so genuinely connected and protective of nature and our environment.”
