'Beating the Bounds'

'Beating the Bounds' is an ancient custom, dating from Anglo-Saxon times, which traditionally involved hitting local landmarks with tree branches to establish and maintain a shared mental map of the parish boundaries.

In 2024 The Mayor wishes to celebrate Hertford through the Boundary walk and hopes to meet locals along the way.

Here are the approximate timings of the Mayor's walk around Hertford, Beating the Bounds on Friday. Please feel free to say hello, join for a while, or sponsor if you can.

9.00 am Castle  - West Street Guide Hut - Hertford Town FC

9.35 am St Mary's Hertingfordbury - Panshanger Park Dragonfly hotspot 

10.05 Sele School (meeting students) - Sele Community Hub

11.00 Bengeo Avenue 

11.20 St Leonard's (meeting the Friends of St Leonard's) - Pinehurst Bronze Age barrow, Birdie Way

12.00 Mudlarks 

1.30 Hertford CC Cricket ground - Hornsmill Community Centre

2.30 ish Castle
