If you’re looking for activities or events to attend in Hertford, then look no further as we’ve compiled a round-up of events taking place this weekend.
Friday 9 May
If you’re an 80s music fan, pop along to the Corn Exchange and re-live the decade when hairstyles were highly flammable and mobile phones were the size of bricks. Expect to hear all the big classics such as Madonna, Prince, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, The Eurythmics, Bon Jovi, Queen, Spandau Ballet and of course Wham! Tickets are £7 in advance or £10 on the door. Tickets can also be purchased from the Town & Tourist Information Centre at 10 – 12 The Wash.
Charmaine Alexander is exhibiting her latest collection of works in Courtyard Art’s Main Gallery until 31st May. Her flowing and graphic style combined with her rich use of colour, are sure to make a lasting impression on all who see them. Courtyard Arts is open to from 10am until 4pm, Tuesdays – Saturdays.
Saturday 10 May
The monthly Hertford Farmers Market is open from 8:30am to 1pm on Saturday in Market Place. It features produce from local livestock, poultry and dairy farmers, together with fruit and vegetables, honey, preserves and bakery products from the countryside surrounding Hertford.
Following the recent County Council elections, Hertford Town Council’s Meet Your Local Councillor event returns on Saturday between 10:30am and 12:30pm at their stall on Market Place. This is an opportunity to ask questions about local issues. Everyone is welcome to attend and no appointment necessary, simply turn up.
Also on Saturday, enjoy a fun day singing with Hertford Choral Society at their Open Singing Day. Registration is required. Book your place here.
The commemorations to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day continue at Hertford Museum this Saturday. Between 11am and 3pm there will be music, dancing, food tastings, gallery talk, and other activities.
Also on Saturday, Hertford’s Friends’ Meeting House, the oldest Quaker Meeting House in continuous use, has an open day. Built in 1670, the Meeting House is open for the welcoming and showing around of visitors on the second Saturday of each month. It is open from 10:30am for one hour.
The wonderful Courtyard Quartet will be performing a specially selected programme of songs to enjoy and unwind to on a spring evening at Courtyard Arts on Saturday at 6pm. Tickets are £10 each. You can purchase your tickets from Courtyard Arts, email admin@courtyardarts.org.uk or phone 01992 509596 to reserve your tickets and pay on arrival.
Join Hertford Pantry's first fundraising event of the year. All proceeds will support more local families. The cost is £15 per person. Quizzers should bring their own glasses, as well as drinks and snacks in addition to your supper. There will also be a raffle. To book your slot, email the organiser.
Why not visit the Secret Society Of Hertford Crafter's VE Day 80th Anniversary yarnbomb installation? It celebrates the military, civilian and animal heroes who served in 1945 to the present day. The installation is on display at the Mill Garden, next to BEAM.
The Hertford Art Society’s Spring Open Exhibition opens on at 10am. The 72nd Open Exhibition takes place at Cowbridge Halls until Saturday 10th May. It’s one of the most prestigious open exhibitions in the south east, welcoming amateurs and professionals alike.
Sunday 11 May
Taking place on Sunday, Hertford Town Council’s Eco Fest aims to raise awareness of the small changes we can all make to reduce our carbon footprint and save money. Among the activities to get involved with will be a Repair Workshop, a Climate Café, a composting demonstration, an opportunity to hear why bees are so important to the environment, as well as refreshments and live music. The event takes place at Hertford Castle from 12noon until 4pm and is free of charge. For more information, click here.
Also on Sunday, St Andrew's Church hosts a fundraiser following its 10:30am service. Cakes, baked by St Andrew Primary School's Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and decorated by the children of the school, will be for sale. All proceeds will go to the PTA.
BEAM, Hertford's creative arts and culture venue, will be open throughout the weekend, so if you’re a film or theatre fan, be sure to check out their website.
