The Old Barge, is one of the the oldest independent free houses in Hertford.

Situated at the head of the River Lea navigation in Hertford, The Old Barge is set in a picturesque location and makes an excellent destination for cyclists, walkers, shoppers and river users.

This traditional establishment features flagstone floors and cozy open fires in the winter and was designed by pub landlords Sally, Simon and their team. The food is all freshly prepared and beers are handpicked. Their menu always includes vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options.

They hold many regular community events throughout the year including a family friendly duck race along the River Lee on Easter Monday,  a CrayFish festival designed specifically for the under 12's on the August bank holiday (Though lots of parents get involved!)

They also host two music festivals a year: Spring Fling in May and The Musical Mystery Tour in August.

They also run regular events including pub quiz nights every Sunday from 9pm and a music quiz on the last Thursday of the month. Various one off themed quizzes take place such as the Harry Potter Quiz on Halloween night this year. There are regular food and drink nights such as Sparkling nights, gin nights, whisky nights, vegan events, cheese & wine etc.

The papers are bought daily and the pub has a book exchange as well as a games shelf and free wifi. The licence only permits under 18's until 7pm, but this is a nice change of pace for the evenings, for those who would like to escape the madness of modern family life.

Why not take a stroll along the river to discover this traditional family friendly establishment which offers a delicious contemporary British menu and extensive range of real ales, lagers, ciders, wines and premium bottled selection.
