
Marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day in Hertford
A VE Day flag is flying at Hertford Castle.
The Mayor of Hertford, Cllr Rachel Carter, has raised a VE Day flag at Hertford Castle to commemmorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.
Hertford's Royal British Legion will be leading a short service of Remembrance at Hertford's War Memorial from 10:45am.
At 12noon, the Mayor will join a two-minute silence at Tesco in Hertford.
Later, at 5:30pm, Hertford Town Council will host a special event at Hertford Castle.
With live music, fish and chips, crépes and bar, there will be plenty to enjoy as Hertford comes together to commemorate this shared moment of celebration with the nation.
There will also be an arts and crafts station for children. Why not come along and help make some VE Day bunting?
Visitors are welcome to bring their own blankets and seating.
Coming together with the nation, the beacon will be lit at 9.30pm while 'The Tribute' is read by the Lord Lieutenant following which, Hertford Choral Society will lead in singing "I Vow to Thee My Country".
