With schools out for summer and parents/guardians looking for free activities to entertain the kids, Hertford Play Day has something on offer for all ages.
Hertford Play Day The Town Centre Event for Children
Hertford Play Day is organised by Hertford Town Council and takes place on Wednesday 1st August from 11am - 4pm in the town centre. There will also be another of Hertford Town Council’s popular trails from children launching on Saturday 28th July.
As part of a national initiative, the Council has organised an abundance of activities, most of which are free of charge or low cost to participate in.
Free Activities & Shows Include: • Magic shows • Circus skills workshops • Balloon modelling and face painting • Martial arts demonstrations and workshops • Kids movies at Hertford Theatre • LEGOBOT Wars – free LEGO robot activities • Design your own t-shirt competition at Gingerlillies • Glitter tattoos, beauty tutorials, hair braiding at Love Locks • Craft activities in Hertford Museum, Leaf Café, Hertford Library • Free samples of food & drink + child friendly activities at Café Rouge
Children are encouraged to take part in the Pirate & Princess Trail. Two different trails will run during the summer holidays where children will hunt for hidden knitted pirates and princesses created by the Secret Society of Hertford Crafters. Trail 1 runs from 28th July – 11th August and Trail 2 runs from 18th August – 1st September. The trail is free to children who will receive a treasure prize once completed. Trail maps are available from Hertford Town and Tourist Information Centre.

The Pirate and Princess Trail will also be a fun activity to take part in throughout the summer, and it’s great to have the involvement of so many town centre businesses in it.”
