Hertford Choral Society summer concert takes place today

Taking place at All Saints' Church today at 5pm.

Hertford Choral Society holds its summer concert today at 5pm at All Saints' Church in Queen's Road.

The concert starts with a new composition by Katy Lavinia Cooper, Twelve Trees, commissioned in 2024 for the 60th anniversary of the Sing for Pleasure Charity. Inspired by trees native to the British Isles, the 12 pieces about different trees delve into the history, folklore and traditional music of those lands.

This will be followed by the well-known Holberg Suite for orchestra by Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg.

Ola Gjeilo, also from Norway although now living in the US, is one of the most frequently performed contemporary choral composers. His Sunrise Mass is reflective, immensely atmospheric and uplifting – a joy to listen to on a summer’s evening.

Unreserved tickets, costing £15, can be purchased at the Town & Tourist Information Centre, which is open today from 9:30am until 5pm.

Hertford Choral Society is a well-established friendly non-auditioned community choir with around 100 voices bringing top quality music to the county town. The choir is supported by high-quality professional soloists and musicians, resulting in highly enjoyable and satisfying concerts for audiences and singers alike.
