Crowds Rocked Out at Rock at the Castle

Posted on 09/08/2017

11,000 visitors attended Hertford Town Council’s free charity music festival, Rock at the Castle, on Sunday 6th August. The annual festival is held in the grounds of Hertford Castle and saw musicians and bands performing across four stages.

Rock at the Castle is the largest event held in the county town and attracts visitors from the town and much further afield.

The chosen charity to benefit from the event was Richard Hale School’s Anniversary Appeal, which raised £3559 on the day. This marked the School celebrating its 400th anniversary in Hertford, and the money will go towards equipping a state of the art sports hall. The new building will be an invaluable asset for the students, staff and the wider community.

Richard Hale School 2017 Co-ordinator, Sue Homan, said: “On behalf of Richard Hale School we would like to thank Hertford Town Council for selecting us to be the event beneficiary. We are grateful for the support in the quest to raise funds for the much needed sports hall. The school is delighted with the funds raised on a truly wonderful community day, thank you to everyone who gave so generously.”

Chairman of the Development and Leisure Committee, Cllr Jane Sartin, said: “Rock at the Castle was once again enjoyed by thousands of people, in great weather. The event is only possible due to the hard work of a huge number of people, many giving their time and talents for free, and I’m sure all who attended were grateful for this. I’d like to thank the musicians and those who provided technical support to them, the staff of Hertford Council who  organised and worked at the event, and the volunteers who litter picked and acted as stewards.”

Headline sponsor McMullen’s Brewery generously donated £1 per pint of every McMullen Ale sold on the day to the Mayor of Hertford’s Charity, the Ancient Charities of Hertford.

The next Hertford Town Council event at the Castle takes place on the afternoon of Sunday 20th August, when there will be tours of the Castle and a brass band playing on the lawn. For further information about upcoming Hertford Town Council events visit www.hertford.gov.uk/events
