The charity was formed in 2007 and began operating in 2008 and aims to create opportunities for people with learning disabilities to lead lives where they are integrated in their community. The charity works on many projects such as providing a gardening service and maintaining public gardens which gives disadvantaged individuals an opportunity to learn new skills and develop confidence through a work experience programme.

Mudlarks vegetarian café in Hertford lets people with special needs gain work experience in all aspects of running a café, from food preparation, barista training and waiting on customers.

Mudlarks reported, “many people with learning disabilities want to work but face considerable barriers to training and work experience – the Mudlarks café will give them an opportunity to learn, train and work locally.”

Chairman of the Development and Leisure Committee, Cllr Miss Isabel Sigmac, said:

“Selecting a beneficiary of Rock at the Castle was a very difficult task for councillors as they were all worthy winners. This year we are celebrating the 10th Rock at the Castle so ask visitors to dig deep to donate to this fantastic cause.”
