As part of National Heritage Weekend, Hertford Castle will open its doors to the public free of charge. Visitors will be able to explore the basement, dungeons, Robing Room and Downshire Suite. The Castle lawn will host a medieval encampment, medieval battles, falconry and much more.
To celebrate National Heritage Open Days Weekend, Hertford Town Council, in partnership with Celtic Harmony, have organised free events for visitors to enjoy on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September.
On Saturday 9th September the county town will go back in time as dressed up warriors will roam the town, children (and adults) can try on armoury and there will be craft activities held in Parliament Square including bracelet making.
On Sunday 10th September Hertford Castle will be open free of charge from 12noon – 4pm. There will also be entertainment and activities on the castle lawn including a falconry flying display, archery, story telling, medieval encampment, bouncy castle and barbeque.
Many of the historical buildings in Hertford will be open during the weekend and visitors will be able to pick up a Hertford Heritage Trail map from the Hertford Town and Tourist Information Centre to discover buildings with historic importance around the county town. In addition, a Hertford Heritage Photo Trail will run from Saturday 2nd September – Sunday 10th September where the public will be able to view historical photographs of Hertford’s well know buildings. Venues featured on the trail are detailed in the Hertford Town and Tourist Information Centre.
